YouTube Tips Straight from the Source

YouTube LogoAs we have mentioned before, YouTube is now the world's second most popular search engine (and it is owned by the #1 search engine, Google). Performers, if that isn't reason enough for you to get your skills on tape, I don't know what is.

At this point, the fact that YouTube is massively popular should come as a surprise to no one. Personally I am more surprised at how many (most?) YouTube videos I come across are just downright crummy. Sometimes it seems like people just don't know, or don't care, about the way bad content affects their image, brand, act, band, etc.

Luckily YouTube is throwing us all a life raft.

In an effort to help uploaders figure out exactly what works and what doesn't, YouTube recently released their first-ever 'YouTube Creator Playbook.' This handy 70 page pdf (which you can download for free right here) covers everything from how to make the most effective videos possible to how to get people to watch.

The ebook is organized into three sections: Programming & Producing, Publishing & Optimization and Community & Social Media. 70 pages is a lot but I do think this booklet could help many YouTube amateurs who are looking to get more eyes on their videos and to grow their buzz.

In case you don't get around to reading the book for awhile, I will paraphrase one particular gem that stuck out to me: 'You have 15 seconds before you lose your viewer's attention so make sure you the beginnings of your videos are compelling.'

Makes sense, no?
