Help Shape the Future of Music

music revenueCalling all musicians: The Future of Music Coalition, and the future of music itself, needs your help.

The Future of Music Coalition is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that "musicians have a voice in the issues that affect their livelihood." The group's focus is on finding ways to help musicians navigate the increasingly complicated landscape of the music business.

Basically, they are all about helping musicians make money. That's a mission we can get behind.

The Coalition is currently working on an effort they are calling the Artist Revenue Streams project. It's "a groundbreaking research initiative to document the complex nature of being a musician and composer in the 21st century." Inside the Gig is no stranger to covering the changing nature of the music business, so when the Coalition reached out to us to help spread the word about the project, we were more than happy to help.

So what can you do? Well, you can help the FMC by giving them some info on where your music revenue is coming from. Live gigs? Downloads? Vinyl sales? Take their anonymous online survey and let them know (and let us know as well by leaving a comment!)

For more information on the project visit the Artist Revenue Streams homepage and read this Billboard article for background about the importance of the effort.
